TAMPA, Fla. Gavin Nolan has been Wrestling since he was four years old.

The senior is the all the time wins leader at Clearwater Central Catholic and if you ask his coach Chris McClure what sets him apart, he’ll tell you it’s his preparation.

"He gets lazer focused before his matches, says McClure and by the time he steps out on to the mat to start the match he’s ready".

Every day Gavin will spent his free time making notes of his opponents and watching matches on his Ipad, it keeps him sharp And prepared.

"That consistency, you have to be really persistent, you have to have a great mind set., says The Crusaders Senior, I just think doing everything right all the time is just super hard, if you can do that, I think you’re going to become one of the best wrestlers".

Gavin’s persistency has paid off, he is the number one ranked wrestler in the state in his 150 weight class, and this year he is gunning to become the first four time state champion in the history of Pinellas county.

"It just feels good to walk into a tournament and everybody says, oh there he is, you got to go beat him, got to go beat him, says gavin, I’ve been beaten three times this year and I can tell by the wrestlers they’ve like studied me so it’s kind of a form of respect so that’s a great feeling".

That feeling transfers towards classroom as well where Gavin holds a 4.25 GPA and will take college credits into whatever university he chooses to wrestle at, but one thing is for sure, if you want to catch this kid off guard, you better have done your homework.
