The Buffalo Bills have been in the process of re-shaping their defensive line this offseason with the additions of Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi.
The NFL Draft could provide another opportunity to add to the front line, and Arkansas edge defender Landon Jackson could fit right in.
Jackson is a big man at 6’6" and 264 pounds. He added some 40 pounds to his frame while at Arkansas as says he could pack on even more.
He was an All-SEC performer the past two seasons while racking up 13 sacks along the way. He also surprised some with his speed by running a 4.68 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
“I fly around. Love the game,” Jackson said of his strengths while at the combine. “Definitely my length. I’m a really long-levered guy. Play with a motor. Use my length and got a few finesse moves in the bag as well.”
Jackson met with the Bills at the combine, including Head Coach Sean McDermott, and he looked to leave a lasting impression.
“At the end of the day, if they draft me, they’re getting a dog,” Jackson said. “They’re getting a guy who’s going to come in and make an instant impact. Not a guy you’ve got to worry about getting in trouble, causing any problems in the room. Overall, you’re going to get a dog and a guy who wants to give his all to the program.”
Jackson has alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss. He’s been an outspoken advocate for children and plans to continue to use his platform once he’s in the NFL.
“That’s something that means a lot to me because I just know how I was as a kid growing up with it and it was real tough,” he said. “Inspire those kids that are different and make them know that it’s OK to be different.”
Jackson’s size, production, personality and character traits all seem to fit right into the mold of the kind of players the Bills love to have.
The Bills could certainly afford to bolster the defensive end position. Hoecht (and DT Ogunjobi) will be suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. Bosa has a history of injuries but has been an elite performer when healthy. The club gave an extension to Greg Rousseau, who figures to be a starting force once again. Veteran A.J. Epenesa and second-year player Javon Solomon will also be in the mix for the Bills.
