If the Buffalo Bills are looking to bulk up on the defensive line, scouts and draft analysts believe this is a great year to be in that market.
South Carolina defensive tackle T.J. Sanders is a player who could be a fit for the Bills to plug into the lineup up front.
Sanders was a key contributor over the past couple of seasons playing in the rugged SEC. He racked 8.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss in 2023-24.
He stands 6’4” and weighs just under 300 pounds — a man known to be tough to move on the interior while playing with power and violence against opposing offensive lineman.
“I feel like I have great hands. Being able to engage with the O-lineman before he really gets up on me and has a chance to hold me like they all do,” Sanders said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “Trying to keep him away from me, keep my extension, my gap, block down and just trying to play fast.”
Sanders says he’s a tough critic of himself and wants to improve how quickly he reacts and attacks once the ball is snapped. He prides himself on being able to adapt to any situation once he reads and understands how the offensive is trying to play against him.
“I just do a lot of studying on myself really. Knowing my weaknesses, trying to get rid of those. Knowing my strengths, trying to perfect those. Just harping on myself, just watching myself,” Sanders said. “Of course, I watch here and there players that dominate the game in the league for a long time, the Chris Joneses of the world. Just trying to be a dominant force.
Sanders also grew up as a standout basketball player, and he says some of those same skills translate to the football field, setting up opponents on a pass rush is a lot of like a crossover dribble move on the basketball court.
He could be available on Day 2 of the draft.
