KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Osceola Magic led for almost the entire game Monday night but could not hold off the bigger and stronger Stockton Kings in the final minutes, and Stockton captured its first NBA G League championship.
Stockon prevailed 118-110 in Game 3 of the best-of-three finals series at Silver Spurs Arena.
Stockton, the G League affiliate of the NBA's Sacramento Kings, flew in 6-foot-9, 245-pound Isaac Jones on Monday after he had played 8 minutes for the NBA's Sacramento Kings on Sunday in that team's season finale, and Jones muscled his way to 21 points and 13 rebounds to give Stockton the edge. Jones had not played previously in the series.
Guard Dexter Dennis had 23 points and forward Terry Taylor added 22 to lead Stockton in scoring.
Dennis also locked down Osceola's leading scorer for the series, guard Mac McClung, who shot 4-for-21 and managed just 11 points after scoring more than 30 points apiece in each of the first two games in the series. Guard Ethan Thompson led Osceola with 28 points, and guard Javonte Smart and forward Myron Gardner scored 20 points apiece for Osceola.
Stockton took the lead with 4 minutes, 12 seconds to play in the game when 6-foot-10 center Skal Labissierre hit a 25-foot 3-point shot to put the Kings up 98-95. He had eight points in the fourth quarter alone.
Osceola never led again.
Guard Mason Jones of Stockton injured his right ankle in the fourth quarter and had to leave the game after scoring 19 points, but he had led the Kings during the other two games of the series, and he was named the finals MVP.
Game 1 went to Osceola 129-118 on April 8. Forward Myron Gardner led Osceola that night with 30 points, and McClung had 29 points and seven assists, with Thompson adding 15 points and six rebounds.
Then the series moved Friday to Stockton, Calif., where the Kings prevailed 144-126. Stockton used its size to overcome a 75-68 halftime deficit and tie the series at 1-1. Stockton guard Mason Jones notched a double-double with 27 points and 12 assists. Center Skal Labissière followed closely behind with 26 points and seven rebounds, and Taylor contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds, earning another double-double.
Osceola's McClung led all scorers with 34 points. Center Jalen Slawson had 23 points, and Gardner racked up 22 points. Guard Alex Morales added 20 points, and Thompson had 15 points.
Osceola previously won the championship in 2020-21, when the team was playing in Lakeland, and was trying to claim its second title. Stockton was playing in the finals for the first time.
