LOS ANGELES — The fifth full-scale CicLAvia event of 2024 will take place Sunday in what is dubbed the “Heart of LA.”

The route encompasses a 7.5-mile stretch of open streets through downtown LA, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights, the Arts District, Echo Park and the Sixth Street Viaduct.

It will stretch from Bellevue Avenue at Glendale Boulevard to East Cesar Chavez Avenue, west of Evergreen Avenue with a side route along North Broadway.

Heart of LA is CicLAvia’s “anchor route,” executive director Romel Pascual told reporters.

“It’s where the inaugural CicLAvia took place in October 2010, and the route we return to every fall,” Pascual said. “Each year the route varies slightly to see more of our beautiful city from outside the confines of a car. For 2024, we’ll be going back over the spectacular Sixth Street Viaduct, one of LA’s most celebrated and iconic landmarks.”

The streets will be reserved for bicyclists, runners, skaters and pedestrians. No vehicles will be allowed during the festival, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This will be the 56th in the series of street festivals designed to encourage residents to explore different neighborhoods on foot or via other non-motorized modes of transport.

Participants will be able to jog, ride, bike, skate, run, walk or skateboard along the route, which will include five hubs with activities and special programs.

The hubs are at Echo Park, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Mariachi Plaza and Evergreen Avenue.

In addition to family-friendly activities, hubs offer restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking and first aid. Free pedicab rides are also available at each information booth.

The last of the six full-scale festivals scheduled for 2024, “CicLAvia the Valley,” is scheduled for Dec. 8 and will include the West San Fernando Valley communities of Reseda, Winnetka and Canoga Park along a five-mile route on Sherman Way.
