You'll want to keep an eye to the sky between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. for the potential of a few strong thunderstorms.

What You Need To Know

  • There is a Marginal to Slight Risk of severe weather in place across New York

  • A few of the storms might be strong enough to prompt warnings from mid to late afternoon

  • An isolated tornado and damaging winds are possible in the Slight Risk area

We have a moist flow of air along a southerly breeze today as a warm front moves up toward our area.

While we started our day with a few showers, it's the evening that could become more active.

Scattered clusters of thundery downpours with flashes of lightning will move through from southwest to northeast before and throughout the afternoon and evening drive times.

There could be strong, localized damaging wind and hail in some, but not all of the storms. Localized downpours could briefly become heavy with a few rounds of rain passing through into this evening.

An isolated tornado also can't be ruled out in areas of the Hudson Valley and Catskills region.

Another storm or two may redevelop by early afternoon on Friday, but there should not be a severe risk.
