James Taylor once sang: “I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain. I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end.”
We welcomed a significant amount of water in many dusty rain gages all across south Texas as a weak tropical disturbance from the gulf moved inland over the weekend.
That disturbance continued to push west with scattered rain in El Paso through Wednesday.
While the radar estimated north of ten inches of rain for areas east and northeast of Laredo, most areas received three to six inches of welcomed relief.
While it wasn’t enough rain to put an end to the exceptional drought conditions, ranchers in the Rio Grande Valley still welcomed it greatly.
Even though we're thankful for the rain, unfortunately, we need more – a lot more.
To break the drought, most areas will need another ten or more inches of rain to get back to normal. Luckily, we have another chance for rain with a tropical system we are watching closely in the Caribbean.
