The Justice Department quietly decided in the final weeks of the Biden administration not to prosecute Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, effectively ending the corruption investigation that cast a long shadow over the political career of a close ally of President Donald Trump, The Associated Press has learned.
2. Texas Senate passes investment in water infrastructure amid looming crisis
The Texas Senate passed a priority piece of legislation on Wednesday aimed at improving the state’s water infrastructure amid a looming water crisis.
Senate Bill 7, authored by state Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, plans to allocate billions of dollars to invest in water-related projects and create an office in charge of oversight. The bill passed with unanimous approval.
3. Gone but not forgotten: Selena's legacy continues 30 years after her death
Isabel Marie Sanchez performed a tribute concert to Selena Quintanilla with the San Antonio Philharmonic. The singer’s early years are featured in a Sundance Film Festival documentary titled “Selena Y Los Dinos.” Countless other tributes have reminded fans of the Queen of Tejano music.

4. Texas Senate passes teacher prayer bill
A bill granting teachers the right to pray while working in Texas schools has passed the Senate.
Republican Sen. Tan Parker’s Senate Bill 965 was created in reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling on a Washington high school football coach’s post-game prayer.
5. Military troops, tactical vehicles arrive in Big Bend with hundreds more on the way, officials say
U.S. military officials have deployed about 200 troops to the Big Bend region of Texas and plan to send hundreds more as part of the agency’s “border security mission.”
Approximately 500 troops are set to arrive in the coming weeks, according to a report from Marfa Public Radio. The Department of Defense also sent Humvee-like tactical vehicles, fuel trucks and Stryker combat vehicles — military vehicles developed for the U.S. Army — to the region.
6. ‘TV Camp for Grownups’: ATX TV Festival announces season 14 programming
This year, Austin will host the 14th season of the ATX TV Festival. The festival, less than two months away, kicks off May 29 through June 1.
Seth Meyers is one of the headliners and will offer an insider’s perspective on his Emmy-nominated Late Night show, highlighting memorable segments, his approach to political comedy and the satisfaction of creating late-night entertainment.
