It’s a time-honored tradition to let the Asian elephants at the Honolulu Zoo predict the winner of the Super Bowl. Will it be the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles?
On Wednesday, Vaigai and Mari were presented with two watermelons — one featuring the logo of the Kansas City Chiefs and the other with the logo of the Philadelphia Eagles. Whichever team’s watermelon is selected first is the elephant’s pick to win the big game.
Honolulu Zoo visitors and media were on hand Wednesday as Vaigai rushed out to squash the watermelon with the Philadelphia Eagles’s logo. At first, it seemed like she might pick the Kansas City Chiefs, but at the last second, she moved towards the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Sunday, we will find out if Vaigai’s prediction is correct.
Last year, the Honolulu Zoo’s elephants picked the Kansas City Chiefs, who went onto win the Super Bowl LVII. However, in 2022 and 2023, the elephants’ picks were wrong.
