ORLANDO, Fla. — It's an open secret that Universal Orlando is working on a new attraction at Islands of Adventure.

• Construction underway, but Universal hasn't officially addressed it

Construction is currently underway on a roller coaster in the park's Jurassic Park area.

And although Universal hasn't officially announced the new attraction, it has now, at least, publicly acknowledged it.

In a blog post listing what's ahead in 2020, Universal on Wednesday dropped this little tease: "Keep your eyes peeled and ears to the ground for rumblings over in Jurassic Park."

It's not much, but hey, it's something.

Rumors about Universal's plans to build a coaster in the Jurassic Park area first started circulating in 2018. And then in early 2019, construction walls were erected around the area.

Around that time, construction permits for the coaster were released, giving insight into the possible track layout. Then in July, Universal's parent company Comcast filed a trademark for "velocicoaster," with the name to be used for an "amusement park ride." Many thought Universal would officially announce the ride at its "epic" press event, when it shared a picture of dinosaur eggs on its Instagram page with the caption "something is hatching..." just days before.

Instead, the company decided to focus solely on revealing plans for its upcoming Epic Universe park.

Still unclear is whether the new coaster will be themed after Jurassic Park or Jurassic World, but given the "velocicoaster" trademark and the fact that Universal Studios Hollywood's Jurassic Park ride was rethemed to Jurassic World, it's not hard to think it will be Jurassic World.
