ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Pete summer camp that had to temporarily close because of coronavirus cases is expected to reopen on Monday.

The Walter Fuller Recreation Center is expected to reopen and the city says it will continue doing exactly what it has been: following all of the recommended guidelines.

Officials say dealing with COVID-19 cases is the new normal and they are prepared to handle them as they pop up.

Summer camps at the Walter Fuller Recreation Center and the Thomas "Jet" Jackson Recreation Center were forced to close last week due to the coronavirus.

At one, a staff member tested positive and at the other, a parent and their children tested positive for COVID-19.

In both incidents, the people who tested positive say they were not showing any symptoms of being sick.

The city closed the camps for three business days to allow time for sanitizing and a deep clean.

Officials with St. Pete Parks and Recreation Department say they will continue screening campers and staff members, and following recommended guidelines in regards to cleaning and distancing, but they believe cases will likely continue popping up.

The people who tested positive are quarantining at home and city officials say they will continue working with the health department throughout the summer to do anything they can to prevent the virus spreading at camp.
