1. Mayor Welch's new City Hall on Tour to focus on storm recovery
Fresh off meeting with state lawmakers about the progress of still-ongoing storm recovery in the area, Mayor Ken Welch is restarting his City Hall on Tour speaking engagements.
2. Iconic St. Pete Don CeSar hotel partially reopens six months after 2024 storms
Due to the amount of damage sustained during Hurricanes Helene and Milton in different parts of the 1920s Gatsby-Era building, the hotel’s management team decided to bring guests back with a phased reopening.
3. Florida leaders push to have NASA headquarters on the Space Coast
During a press conference about the Indian River Lagoon on Tuesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis commented that instead of the U.S. space agency building a new building for its headquarters in Washington, D.C., it could be looking at the Sunshine State.
4. The Atlantic releases entire Signal chat showing Hegseth's detailed attack plans against Houthis
The Atlantic on Wednesday released the entire Signal chat among senior national security officials, showing that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth provided the exact timings of warplane launches and when bombs would drop.
5. Supreme Court upholds Biden rule requiring serial numbers and background checks for ghost guns
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Biden administration regulation on the nearly impossible-to-trace weapons called ghost guns, clearing the way for continued serial numbers, background checks and age verification requirements to buy them in kits online.
6. Tampa Union Station has become one of Amtrak’s busiest stations in Florida
The century-old Tampa Union Station is among the few buildings in the city still fulfilling its original role. Two Amtrak trains arrive and depart from this stop daily, and now the Floridian line offers direct train service to Illinois.
7. Disney World announces updates coming to ‘Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin’
The attraction, located in Tomorrowland area of Magic Kingdom, will feature a new show scene, updated ride vehicles and gameplay enhancements.

- STORM RECOVERY INPUT | Pinellas is asking residents to weigh in on how to spend $813 million in hurricane recovery funds. The county has launched an online survey and hub, and will host a series of public meetings in April and May.
- NEW BRIDGE SPAN | Drivers heading to St. Petersburg from Tampa on Interstate 275 are now driving on the new span of the Howard Frankland Bridge. The span opened Tuesday morning. View additional information about the new Howard Frankland Bridge Span.
- LANE CLOSURE | All lanes of South Howard Avenue will be closed between West Palm Drive and West Stroud Avenue while the Tampa Water Department repairs a water main break. There will be barricades and signs in the area to help reroute traffic. The work is scheduled to be completed by 5 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
