BRANDON, Fla. -- A Brandon neighborhood has been underwater for weeks.
- Residents fed up with flooding in Brandon neighborhood
- Streets, yards flooded in Mead Lake neighborhood
- Issues with standing sewer water, mosquitoes, trash pick
Some portions of streets in the Mead Lake neighborhood are filled with water and residents on Timber Pond Drive have flooded backyards.
County employees have been pumping water out and residents say it is helping but feel like more needs to be done, so they took their concerns to the Hillsborough County Commissioners at a meeting this week.
"Our street has been flooded here for about three weeks now," said Ron Menard, a resident who lives on the street.
There's been standing sewer water, extra mosquitoes, and issues with trash being picked up on time.
One mother told Spectrum Bay News 9 that her child's school bus hasn't been able to pick up the kids on her street because of the road closure.
Venassa Delgado's son has down syndrome and autism, and without the bus picking him up, he's unable to attend classes.
A large hole also opened up following the flooding and is blocking traffic from passing through.
Other neighbors say they can't even sit in their backyards because there's so much water.
Their biggest fear now is even more flooding from the lake if a big storm comes through.
"It’s going to be more water and possibly all the way up into the inside of your house. It’s a general fear for everybody," said Jim McDonald, whose backyard is almost completely flooded.
Neighbors said Hillsborough County Commissioners told them a plan is in the works for this spring, but they hope more is done to combat this problem before then.
