ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 47-year-old man was killed Monday night after he was struck by two vehicles on a St. Petersburg roadway on Christmas Eve.
According to St. Petersburg police, Jeffrey Wade Wilson was crossing 4th Street North at 23rd Avenue North just after 9 p.m. Wilson was struck and killed by a red Jeep SUV traveling northbound in the curb lane.
As Wilson was in the roadway, he was struck a second time by a 2014 Fiat 500L.
Both vehicles pulled into the Baycare Urgent Care parking lot at 2331 4th Street North, then the Jeep SUV the driver sped away.
Witness Thomas Lowe confirmed the nature of the crash.
"The dude hit him and took off," Lowe told us. "It was a hit and run."
Wilson died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
"I wish they'd catch this guy," said Lowe, who lost his right leg in a hit-and-run crash more than 20 years ago. "Look at me, I was run over and dragged two blocks from a car."
The St. Petersburg Police Department is looking for a small to midsized Jeep SUV; possibly red or maroon in color.
The vehicle should have damage to the front end. Anyone who may have seen the crash, or who may have information about the vehicle or the crash is asked to call 727-893-7780, or text SPPD + your tip to TIP411.
