HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — After nearly 22 years, there’s still no arrest in the death of a Brooksville woman.
- Hernando cold case to be featured on TV show
- Carrie Leonard, 21, disappeared in 1997
- Body found two years later
The case is being featured on the show “Cold Justice” Saturday.
Twenty-one-year-old Carrie Leonard disappeared in 1997.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office website, Leonard was last seen leaving a party with a friend, Anthony “Tony” Ford, in the central part of the county.
Her body was found two years later near a Brooksville orange grove.
“It just broke my heart. It was like I lost my first child,” Leonard’s Aunt, Ruth Casper, said.
Years later, Leonard’s family still doesn’t know what happened to her.
They’re heartbroken and desperate for answers.
“I miss her and I think of what would she be now. A mother? Maybe even approaching to be a grandmother sometime soon,” Casper said.
“My mom has passed away since then and so she never knew what happened to her daughter,” Rosetta Yeager, Leonard’s Sister, added.
They hope bringing the case back into the public eye will lead to someone coming forward with more information.
“I just want to find justice. She didn’t deserve this. Nobody deserves this,” Yeager said.
"We were able to bury her remains, but we need to know that we did everything we could to have justice for Carrie,” Casper explained. “We know there has to be somebody that knows the final details to put this to peace. We need peace as a family."
Representatives with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office told us there was no new information they could release about the case at this time.
