ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Here's your Tampa-area weather forecast for late Monday into Tuesday morning, along with a look at conditions through the work week.

  • Summer heat begins
  • Only a few thunderstorms
  • Sub-tropical storm Andrea

The small low pressure area far out in the Atlantic Ocean was declared Sub-Tropical Storm Andrea.

It’s not purely tropical and will never have an impact to the United States.  It will fall apart within the next couple of days when it is absorbed by a cold front moving in that direction.

Locally, skies will be mostly clear with just a few isolated storms. There is not enough moisture in the atmosphere to produce lots of storms, but just enough to trigger a few.

Consider yourself very lucky if you get one of the storms, as it will help to cool your area down.

Morning lows will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

We’re definitely headed into a hotter pattern this week.

Tuesday will again go from mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with just a few isolated storms late in the day into the evening. But there won’t be enough storms to help cool us down.

As a result, expect highs easily into the low to mid 90s.

The big story this week is that we’ll have the hottest temperatures so far this year with our first big heat wave.

Wednesday will be hotter, with mostly sunny skies and only a 10 percent chance of a late day storm.

Highs will easily reach the mid 90s in many locations. The best spot to find slightly lower highs will be at the beach or near the Bay due to the water temperatures still only in the low to mid 80s.

Thursday into Friday will feature even drier air in our atmosphere, so there will be almost no chance of a cooling thunderstorm.

That means it will be mainly sunny and very hot, with highs easily in the mid 90s and some spots inland will be in the upper 90s.

That pattern will continue into this upcoming holiday weekend.
