PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident where they say an off-duty reserve officer from a Bay Area law enforcement agency was shot with his own weapon while confronting a hit-and-run suspect.

The suspect is in custody.

The hit-and-run is believed to have occurred in the 7100 block of 23rd Street in Zephyrhills.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene and was followed by the off-duty officer.

Authorities said there was some kind of confrontation between the two, and that's when the officer was shot in the shoulder.

The officer was Bayflighted to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials have not said yet which agency the officer is with or how, exactly, he got shot.
