PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Hurricane season has just begun but it’s always a good idea to have a plan in place.

  • Company offers storm shelters
  • Shelters can withstand a category 5 hurricane
  • Shelters can hold three to 200 people

One option is a storm shelter.

Kerns Family Construction Company in Pasco County is selling the “Florida Storm Shelters”.

It’s made of a quarter inch steel and is bolted to the ground. It’s certified to withstand a category 5 hurricane or EF5 tornado.

The installation and delivery can take place as soon as three to five days. The company sells various shelter sizes which can hold between three to 200 people.

It’s meant for people to ride out a storm outside of an evacuation area. All shelters can be easily moved or transferred to a different location.

“If they want to stay in their home, whether it’s a mobile home or single family home, (they can have) a shelter, either in the garage or in a closet, where they can have that added level of safety and security,” Linda Kerns explained.

Kerns said their shelters are available to anyone in Florida.
