The governor started the day in the Florida Keys at the Marathon City Hall, announcing $140 million for new affordable workforce housing to help address housing shortages worsened by Hurricane Irma.
“I’m proud to announce $140 million in funding to assist Floridians recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Irma,” DeSantis said. “Communities across our state have demonstrated incredible resilience following recent natural disasters, and my administration remains committed to assisting in recovery efforts with all available resources.”
The funding is awarded by DEO's Rebuild Florida program and will be administered by Florida Housing.
DeSantis also stopped by Sarasota Thursday afternoon to sign a bill for red tide research at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.
Thursday marked a deadline for the governor to act on more than 30 different bills delivered to him earlier this month.
