HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Due to significant overcrowding at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, the shelter is waiving adoption fees for all "ready-to-go" dogs and cats.
- Residents are encouraged to come and adopt pets
- The shelter had more than 600 cats and dogs on Saturday
Staffers hope the severe overcrowding will decrease by waiving the fee. The shelter had more than 600 dogs and cats on Saturday.
According to the center, ready-to-go pets have been at the kennel around three days are are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
Todd Pratt, a spokeperson for the center, in a press release said, "It is a temporary situation brought on in part by the upcoming start of school and people waiting for upcoming adoption specials."
People are encouraged to adopt a pet from the center now, as the need is urgent, Pratt said.
The Pet Resource Center is the only open-admissions shelter in Hillsborough County, taking in all cats and dogs, regardless of their condition, gender, or breed.
It's open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Dogs and cats available for adoption are also available on its website.
