ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. -- Rod and Reed Pier, an iconic Anna Maria Island restaurant and fishing spot, is set to reopen on Saturday.
- Rod and Reed Pier to reopen Saturday
- Pier was closed after walkway collapsed
- Repairs were completed Friday, according to officials
A piling on the walkway collapsed earlier this week and the pier had to close for safety reasons. On Friday morning, crews were out at the pier replacing the broken piling.
Dan Murphy, mayor of the City of Anna Maria, confirms the repairs to the sinking walkway were completed on Friday and the pier has passed inspection.
“Good for the restaurant,” visitor Debbie Allbery said. “With Thanksgiving coming in they are very busy, I would hate for them to lose any business.”
The landmark is privately owned and sits about a half mile from the Anna Maria City Pier which is under construction. That pier is expected to reopen in February.
