WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. — Hurricane Drive in Weeki Wachee is unpaved and full of potholes. Many homeowners want to see the road paved, however, they say the county keeps going back and forth on whether to allow it. Now, the residents are fed up with the seemingly never ending process.

"The frustration is in the confusion of what's going to happen," resident Tim McDaniels said.
The majority of the homeowners there voted to pave the road in 2018, however, when the price increased, they had to re-vote over the summer, resulting in a 50/50 split. Which was not enough to move forward, until residents reached out to Spectrum Bay News 9 with their concerns and commissioners decided to move forward with the project despite the second vote.
However, in the most recent commissioners meeting, they decided to put the item up for a third vote.
"Here we are yet again, not knowing what's going on, what the county is going to do," McDaniels said.
They county told Spectrum Bay News 9 there were conflicting attorney opinions on proper policy, and in abundance of caution, commissioners wanted to have a third vote.
"I'm concerned about not following processes and the results of not following those processes," Commissioner John Allocco said.
McDaniels hopes this time the decision they make will be final.
"It's hard not to feel angry over this indecision and mind changing on the county's part," he expressed.
The Hernando County Public Works Director told us the voting cards have been mailed out and they will report the results to commissioners at their March 24 meeting.
