TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County Schools will soon have a new superintendent.

Addison Davis was voted in unanimously Tuesday afternoon after the board completed the last round of interviews.

Out of the 13 applicants, he was one of three finalists remaining.

Davis, who is currently the Clay County superintendent, says his immediate priorities will be streamlining the budget and narrowing achievement gaps between minority and Caucasian students.

"I'm really thankful for the opportunity and I appreciate the accountability from all," said Davis after the vote. "I will work tirelessly and hard every single day."

Davis replaces Jeff Eakins who is retiring in June. He is the first Hillsborough superintendent hired from outside of the county school district in 50 years.
