HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Several nonprofits are joining forces to fly donations to the areas of Puerto Rico impacted by a string of powerful earthquakes.

Donations are starting to pile up at Town Furniture in Town N Country, just one of several collection sites to help those affected.

Voz y Accion de Puerto Rico is in charge of collecting hygiene products, what mayors in cities affected say is most needed.

That organization is partnering with the Charlie Mike Regional Regional Aviation Disaster Relief Group, which will fly the supplies to the island once enough supplies are collected.

“We’re getting ready on our side to start loading our planes, we got 7 or 8 of them, start loading them and flying things to Puerto Rico,” said Luis Lopez, vice president of the organization.

Protests have erupted in recent days after some unused quake supplies were found in a warehouse on the island.

The organizations say they're giving these supplies to the Lions Club to make sure it gets into the right hands.

“[The Lions Club] will take care of handling it so we’re sure that it will get down there to the people who really need it. It’s very difficult to follow up if you send things to the government, sadly,” Lopez said.
