TAMPA, Fla. — As the investigation continues with the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV), multiple directors in Tampa Bay area have been subpoenaed.

  • Conduct "in fact may be criminal," Rep. Tom Leek says
  • Investigation still ongoing

The FCADV is given over $50 million of taxpayer funds, and disperses it to 42 domestic violence shelters across the state.

But a recent investigation shows CEO Tiffany Carr has been pocketing millions.

During the House session last Thursday, Rep. Thomas "Tom" Leek explained that Carr has been paid upwards of $7 million over a three-year period.

The report mentions Leek also had 210 days of paid time off in her contract.

"This appears to be more than a breach of the public trust. This, in fact may be criminal," says Leek, Representative of District 25.

Leek has been on the forefront of this scandal, and last Thursday during a House session, he was able to approve a subpoena for the coalition's board of directors.

"Right now we need to figure out how these extraordinary payments were authorized," says Leek.

There were five directors subpoenaed that work in domestic violence organizations around the Bay Area.

"Their lawyers have quit, the lobbyists have quit, the only people refusing to quit are the board of directors," says Leek.

Director Laurel Lynch, CEO of HOPE Family Services in Bradenton, was one of those subpoenaed.

Lynch's office released a statement saying, "HOPE remains a completely independent and stand-alone corporation governed by local board of directors and committed to empowering survivors. We fully support and are cooperating with the state of Florida's investigation of potential spending irregularities by FCADV."

The 13 board of directors for FCADV will have to provide documentation on their role during salary approvals.

This is an ongoing investigation.
