BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – February 29 may just be an extra day for many of us, but it’s also a special one for brand-new parents.
- Babies born at Oak Hill Hospital on Leap Day
- The next Leap Year will be February 29, 2024
Babies born on Saturday are now leap year babies.
That came as a bit of surprise to new parents Nick and China Day. Their new baby Alice came several days early at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville.
"We just went in for an appointment yesterday," China Day said. "We didn’t think that we were going to have a baby and now we have a leap year baby!"
Just down the hall, new mom Kelsea Newby admits she wasn’t crazy about having a leap year baby at first, when her son was born Saturday morning.
"I was kind of mad," Newby said. "I was saying I didn’t want that date, I didn’t want it. But I guess it’s special."
Each baby at Oak Hill was given the gift of a leap frog to recognize their special day of 2-29, a day they won’t see again until they turn 4.
"The dad joke came out that she won’t be able to drink until she’s 70. If you go based off the 4 year thing," Nick Day said.
Until then, the parents can pick either the 28th or the 1st to celebrate their new child's birthday.
The next leap year will be in four years on February 29, 2024.
