POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- With campuses closed for the rest of the school year, some families are having a hard time getting access to the internet to take part in distance learning.

Polk County Public Schools and Polk Vision are teaming up to expand online access and make sure as many children as possible have the tools they need.

They're starting a program called "Synced for Students."

Beginning Monday, April 27, PCPS are deploying a specially quipped fleet of 50 school buses that will serve as Wi-Fi hotspots in areas of need.

The buses will operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays at the designated sites.

During that time, students and families in the area will be able to connect to the internet for free.

The bus sites will be patrolled by law enforcement for safety.

When visiting the locations, people will be asked to maintain social distancing guidelines.
