Strawberry Crest High School in Dover hosted a “Prom Parade” Saturday afternoon, allowing students to enjoy all the traditions of a traditional prom without coming in direct contact with each other.
Faculty members came up with the idea after traditional in-person classes were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I called our senior class sponsor and said ‘We’ve got to come up with a Plan B and we’ve got to do something for prom,” said Christie Raburn, principal of Strawberry Crest. “And so we formed a committee of teachers and this was the idea.”
Students stayed in their cars while snaking through a series of stops that included cupcakes, a prom picture, a DJ, and gift bags.
This was the first time students were allowed back on campus and had the opportunity to see one another since Spring Break.
“I appreciate the faculty and staff for allowing us to do this,” said Dywayne Hines, a graduating senior who was also voted “Prom King.”
Strawberry Crest has 489 students in its graduating class.
