  • Curfew is from 7:30 p.m. - 6 a.m., until further notice

The curfew will be in effect from 7:30 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday and last until further notice, city officials said in a news release. The curfew applies to all businesses and people within the city.

“What I saw last night was not a call for voices to be heard, ideas to affect change, or ways to shine a light on inequality,” Mayor Jane Castor said in a statement. “What I saw was shameful, what I saw was heartbreaking. And what I saw did not reflect our community and the values we share. We stand in solidarity with all of the peaceful protests happening in our city and around the country.”

Violation of the order is a second-degree misdemeanor and carries a penalty of up to 60 days imprisonment and/or a $500 fine.

Several peaceful protests were held in the Tampa area on Saturday. But as evening fell, some turned violent, leading to stores and restaurants being looted and damaged.

Tampa police said more than 40 people were arrested Saturday night on charges ranging from burglary to rioting.
