Saturday was a day one local six-year-old won’t ever forget.

At just over a year old, Kya Bach was diagnosed with a rare spinal cancer. After years of treatment, she was ready to ring Golisano Children’s Brass Bell, a Golisano tradition for when a patient becomes a survivor.

But, because of COVID-19, the ceremony was canceled and Kya had to celebrate a little differently.

That brings us to the parade her family held in her honor.

It was complete with an ice cream truck, first responders, and even a visit from “Frozen’s” Queen Elsa and Princess Anna.

Kya’s mother said that even with all of the princesses in attendance, the biggest hero there was Kya’s big brother.

"He has been her light. We remember the one big surgery she had on her back, she was okay, but when she came home she was still sore and stiff, and as soon as she saw him it was like nothing happened. She's laughing, moving, like just everything was fine...yeah, he's her protector," Jenn Bach, Kya's mother, says.

Kya has been cancer free for one year.
