CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- Several people in Catawba County woke up Saturday morning to flood-damaged homes.
One of the worst areas hit was 13th Street NW in Conover. Angeline Yang lives in an apartment on the street and says her car is now completely ruined due to flood waters.
“I came home and the creek was just flooded all over here, and my car was just making noises,” Yang said.
Yang said the water got into her apartment as well.
“This is going to take a while to fix, so we are not going to have a place to live,” Yang said.
The landlord, Sari Davy, said a total of six apartments were damaged by water. She said in one of the apartments the floor caved in because water rushed in underneath it.
“We are all in shock," Davy said. "It’s not a fun situation.”
For now, Davy is helping tenants gather their things. She said this is particularly tough because a few of the apartments were just renovated a few months ago.
“We don’t have flood insurance, so we are just picking up what we can and trying to make the best of it,” Davy said.
