BOCA RATON, Fla. — Stuck at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Murray Wachter and his wife have watched a lot of politics on TV.

What You Need To Know

  • Doctors have given Murray Wachter, 90, months to live

  • He wants to vote one last time

  • Son says his father "fears for the country"

At 90 years young, as he would say, it's been a tough year on him.

“I am 90 years old, I feel like 190. I am just waiting for the end, I had an unbelievable life," said Wachter.

He served his country, had kids and even grand kids. He can certainly count his blessings, but one thing he hasn't been able to count on lately is his health.

“In the last few months he has recognized that, and basically has said, I am ready to go," said Dr. Bob Wachter, his son.

It was in that very conversation Bob heard his dad's final wish.

"I want to hold out enough so I can vote," said Murray.

"He said I am really trying to hang on, that is the thing I am hanging on for. And I just....that was very poignant and I was very proud of him," said Bob. “If you think about it, he is not voting for himself. He is not going to be around. He really fears for the country.”

Doctors give Murray only a few months left to live.

“He knows he is not confident that he will even be around for the inauguration, but that is what he’s come to terms with. So this is an act of generosity, it’s not about him. And I think many people in his generation, it’s not about them, it’s about the future, and the future they want for the country and their children," said Bob.

“It’s the only power we have," said Murray. He plans to vote by mail and he will not be voting for President Donald Trump.
