LITHIA, Fla. — Every student is different.

And they all learn differently.

For this week’s A+ Teacher Stephanie Peacock, who works with students with special learning needs, her work goes far beyond academics.

What You Need To Know

Peacock teaches 5th graders at Bevis Elementary in Lithia.

"Going into middle school, that's the scary part and i don't want them to go in second guessing themselves,” Peacock said. “I want them to be fierce and know that they are smart and beautiful people, and just a well-rounded person."

On Bevis’ Lithia campus , these kids love  learning.

"Mrs. Peacock does amazing things in terms of increasing their reading level and closing these gaps in math and helping kids come back up to grade level,” said Bevis Elementary Principal Rebecca Thoms. “So that way they can compete with their peers and like Mrs. Peacock said, be fierce and amazing."

Peacock is the school’s expert on exceptional student education.

She builds strong relationships with every student and parent, even if it means working late into the night  and on the weekends.

"I teach the kids that struggle a little bit,” she said. “They learn differently, so I really try and find which way works for them, and not every kid has the same outcome. We don't all wear the same size shoe. We're all different, so i really try to focus on each individual kid and their individual learning strategy."

There are all kinds of hands-on activities in her Exceptional Student Education class. Peacock believes in multi-sensory learning and making the work a whole lot of fun

“Some of my kids are learning letters and reading, so I gave them homework for wheel of fortune,” Peacock said. “Watch Wheel of Fortune. It's great. You learn the letters and once you see 'the' so many times, you know if there’s an 'h'. It's probably going to be 'the'.”

A true labor of love – and fun – for Peacock.
