The 16-year-old high school sophomore started an organization called Tampa Bay Hometown Heroes after a family member became ill with Covid.
“My grandfather actually got Covid,” Muzzillo said. “And I saw how great these hospital workers treated him and how great these health care workers were to him.”
He later recovered.
Working with Tampa General Hospital, she set up a website where people can purchase fun items like black and white panda bears, which is one of the best sellers.
Also, there are T-shirts in various colors and sizes and caps to match.
The proceeds go to healthcare workers who, like so many, may be financially struggling during these difficult times.
“100 percent of these proceeds are going toward Tampa General Hospital.” Muzzillo said. “Towards the workers that are directly affected by Covid.”
People can also contribute directly to TGH’s team member emergency fund.
Also, Muzzillo said this is just a start for hometown heroes. She said maybe next year another hospital could be involved or maybe the humane society.
“It could be anything next year that goes with the circumstances we’re under,” she said. “This year we chose Tampa General because of Covid.
“We wanted to help those who are helping us.”
