Some of them are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19, and they’re all American heroes.
Now, eligible veterans at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital & Clinics will start receiving the vaccine.
In a news release, the facility said the vaccinations are possible because Pfizer sent additional shipments to veterans hospitals.
"James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital & Clinics is thrilled to offer the Pfizer
COVID-19 vaccine to health care personnel and Veteran spinal cord unit patients and community living center residents," David VanMeter, interim director of the medical center, said in the release.
"With this vaccine, we have renewed hope. As vaccine supplies increase, our ultimate goal is to offer COVID-19 vaccination to all veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated."
The release states that James A. Haley is also among 113 VA medical centers to receive Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.
As additional vaccine becomes available for more groups of Veterans, VA care teams will reach out to eligible Veterans to schedule vaccinations. There is no need to preregister or come to a facility to sign up, although Veterans may notify their Primary Care Provider so that they can make a note in the patient's chart and follow up when vaccine is available to them.
