BRANDON, Fla. — Family members of a Hillsborough County deputy who was killed in the line of duty last week are speaking publicly about the tragedy.

Master Corporal Brian LaVigne was killed Wednesday when a driver slammed his car into the driver’s side of the deputy’s cruiser.
LaVigne’s daughter Caitlin is also a Hillsborough county deputy — and spoke about her father's impact.
"I wanted to do what he did for people,” Caitlin LaVigne said. “I wanted to make people feel the way he made them feel. There’s no words to describe how much of a good influence he was on people."
Lavigne had one more shift before his retirement.
On Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered the U.S. and Florida flags at the Hillsborough County Courthouse in Tampa, the city hall of Tampa, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday in honor of the Medal of Valor recipient.
Visitation and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday morning at Idlewild Baptist Church located at 18333 Exciting Idlewild Boulevard in Lutz. Both the visitation and service will be open to the public. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Immediately after the service, guests will be directed outside the church for a special ceremony. For those members of the public wishing to attend, parking for the general public will be on the eastern and southwestern sides of Idlewild Baptist Church.
