TAMPA, Fla. — Two women were killed early Tuesday in a wrong-way head-on crash in Tampa.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 24-year-old woman was driving her SUV south in the northbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway just north of Waters Avenue.
Troopers said the wrong way driver collided head on with a sedan at 3:01 a.m., killing both drivers.
The driver of the sedan was a 23-year-old woman.
Authorities have not released the names of the drivers or details on how the wrong-way driver ended up in the wrong lanes.
The crash closed the normally busy northbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway for several hours. The roadway reopened just after 8 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
