LARGO, Fla. — Authorities are investigating the homicides of two females at a home in Largo.
According to Largo police, officers responded to a home in the 1000 block of 8th Ave. NW just after 2 a.m. and found the two victims stabbed to death.
Officials said there they didn't believe there was any ongoing threat to the public and later announced a man was arrested.
Sage Gayle Curry, 19, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and armed burglary.
On Tuesday, police said in a news release detectives believe the killings were a "random act" — no known relationship between the suspected killer and the victims, whose ages and identities are not being released.
Investigators say Curry snuck through a bedroom window and stabbed the first victim while she slept. According to the news release, the second victim was killed while trying to protect the first.
Then, Curry "eventually exited the residence and requested help from a neighbor for the injuries he sustained at the hands of the second victim," according to the release.
Spectrum Bay News 9 went to Curry’s neighborhood. No one answered the door at his home. A neighbor who lives a few doors down spoke with us.
“I heard a lot of yelling coming from over there. There’s been a lot of complaints. I see cops over there all the time,” said Ryan Timmes.
The scene of the double homicide was clear on Tuesday. Kyna Miller-Cole, who lives nearby, spoke with us again, now that she knows what happened.
“The police said everyone is safe here but now I don’t know. I mean I felt safe here, but now I’m not so sure,” said Cole.
