Clearwater's new and improved Crest Lake Park is now open after being closed about a year for $5.7 million worth of improvements.
Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard says the new park will be a destination for residents and visitors for decades to come.
Improvements include:
- Wider walkways around lake
- New sand volleyball courts
- New lighting, landscaping, green space and irrigation
- Splash pad
- Picnic areas
- New playgrounds
- Fishing
- Improved dog park
- Fountain
- Restrooms
Some say this is the perfect place to escape from the stress of the pandemic.
"This is my therapy," says Tyler Davis who enjoys the new sand volleyball courts. "To come out here and sweat and chase the ball and run and jump, and then the social aspect, it’s great. It’s just a really good community, and for us to have another place to play, it’s fantastic."
Susan Hatfield is finding new life in the park while biking with her two dogs.
"It gives you a sense of normalcy again away from all the confinement of the pandemic rules," she shared, saying she appreciates the upgrades.
"Since we bicycle over here, I appreciate the fact that the sidewalks are wider — more room for us and pedestrians
The many levels of enjoyment and relaxation were funded with money from the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill settlement.
