TAMPA, Fla. — Florida colleges and universities will see just shy of $1 billion in coronavirus relief from the federal government, as part of the Cares Act II signed in to law in March.
Eighteen universities and colleges will unevenly split a pot of $975-million, half of which is required to go toward direct student aid.
The other half of the funds can be used for institutional purposes.

The University of South Florida will get the biggest aid package in the Tampa area, a payment of $102 million.
Hillsborough Community College will see a check for $60 million.
Smaller universities will see smaller amounts of aid.
St Leo University in Pasco County is expected to receive $19 million.
The University of Tampa will see $18 million in aid. And Eckerd College will receive just over $4 million.
The aid package on the way to Florida colleges and universities is on top of a previous aid package approved last year by the federal government.
