TAMPA, Fla. — Real estate agent Tina Newby came up with a creative way to show houses during the coronavirus pandemic.

She cooks in the kitchens of the homes she's selling and posts episodes of Realtor Can Cook online for potential buyers to see.

What You Need To Know

  • A Bay area real estate agent is using the kitchen as a way to reach potential buyers

  • Tina Newby post videos of herself cooking in the kitchen of homes for sale as a way to bring it to life for potential buyers

  • Her creative approach is now helping during a housing boom

  • While cooking she talks about all the features of the home

"It’s the feeling that you walked into that home and this is, this is where I want to cook for my family. I want all the holiday parties to happen and for me to be able to show them that while they can’t get into that kitchen means a lot to them,” said Newby.

The approach is now helping during a housing boom.

"For me to combine my love, my passion for real estate for helping people and cooking — this is how I set myself apart,” said Newby.

Behind the lights and cameras is her husband.

Also assisting behind the scenes and learning life lessons, their two daughters.

"By doing all this with me they see how hard I work for my clients, they see that I’m not slacking, so by doing it with me, they’re gonna appreciate working hard and not taking anything for granted," said Newby.

"I want to do this type of photography when I get older, so I’m just learning as I go,” said Newby's 11-year-old daughter Molly.

The cameras capture Newby cooking new recipes, using the kitchen, the heart of the home as she reminds potential buyers.

"I want my audience, my client to see the realness, the rawness of it all, the kitchen where their kids can make a mess, they can burn food, forget things, drop things, it all happens, that’s real life," said Newby.

It helped Robert Meszaros and his wife in their search.

"It’s one of those things that ties things together because when you’re going from house to house you sometimes get them blurred," said Meszaros.

"You don’t remember what’s what and that was the one we went, oh, veggie tacos, got it, OK I like it.”

Newby cooked spaghetti squash in a Land O'Lakes home for the episode the day Spectrum Bay News 9 covered this story.

The realtor tells potential buyers about the home she's cooking in while making the dish and sometimes the current owner will join to add flavor and facts about the home.

The production has grown from a camera phone to a decent-sized setup of cameras and lights.

The family has produced about a dozen episodes so far. They enjoy tweaking recipes together to share with other families.

"I’m the person in front of the camera but behind me is my family who supports me in every way,” said Newby.

"She has fun when she’s doing it and since she’s been kinda busy, I like to see her just enjoy herself,” said Molly.

Newby hopes viewers enjoy her recipes and hopefully, in the end, she can serve up a sold sign.
