TAMPA, Fla. - A new hat for the Tampa Bay Rays has many fans confused.

What You Need To Know

  • New hat includes Tampa's area code, but leaves out St. Pete's

  • St. Pete Mayor Kriseman weighed in

  • The hat is part of a new "Local Market" line

The hat is part of New Era’s new MLB “Local Market” line, highlighting local logos and area codes for each baseball team.

The area code on the front of the Rays hat says 813.

Tropicana Field is, of course, in the 727.

Here is a picture of the hat from New Era’s website:

813 is the area code for Tampa and Hillsborough County and other surrounding areas.

727 is for all of Pinellas County, west Pasco County and St. Petersburg, where the Rays play.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman weighed in on this, tweeting:

To make things a bit more confusing, other teams like the New York Yankees, have multiple area codes listed.

The Rays hat also includes a palm tree, the old Devil Rays logo and wording that says “Tampa Bay Cigar City.”
