During Fourth of July celebrations, a parade in Safety Harbor highlighted the community’s pride and gratitude for its military veterans.
“I want people to understand the sacrifices we have made — So, we can have a parade,” says David Hobbs, Commander of Legion of Honor.
He’s part of the local Shriners Hospitals for Children’s group, aiming to remind folks that freedom doesn’t come easy.
Hobbs served six years in the U.S. Navy and will spend the rest of his life serving his country.
“We took an oath to protect and serve our country … so it’s a lifelong commitment for all of us,” he said.
Alongside him, stand his fellow veterans — with 120 years in uniform between them.
The parade was sorely missed last year when it was canceled by the pandemic.
“It’s actually surreal right now. This is our first parade since COVID hit,” Hobbs said.
And he hopes, this time, they’re here for good.
