A young allergy-friendly chef is on his way to becoming a YouTube sensation.

Derek Rettas, 11, created his own internet show to teach others how to make meals for people who have food allergies.

The show is called “Allergy Friendly Dining with Derek.” Rettas started the YouTube Channel after being diagnosed with a rare condition, eosinophilic esophagitis. The condition prevents him from eating certain foods.

“I could not have eggs, fish, peanuts, dairy, gluten and soy,” Rettas said. “It was really hard because I couldn’t really have anything.”

Over the summer, Rettas joined a cooking camp and learned how to substitute ingredients to make dishes that he could eat. He even invited his friend to join in.

“The Salisbury steak we made with mashed potatoes, that was pretty good,” said Ben Gates, a friend of Rettas.

Now, Rettas enjoys his own specialized cooking.

And he is excited to teach others, like him, how they can enjoy a good meal too.
