CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Bay area Marine Corps veteran who served in Afghanistan is now serving those in need.

Cencio Minson is a bi-lingual family support specialist, however, he wears many hats.

"If they come to us for help, whether it be a homeless person, a family with children, we're never going to turn them away. We're going to find help for them," Minson said.

Minson volunteers at the High Point Neighborhood Family Center in Clearwater. Its mission is to provide encouragement, assistance, education, and services to the High Point community.

On average, the center hands out bags of food, including vegetables, pasta, sauce, meat, and more, to over a hundred families a week.

"When people come to us they're going through a tough time and they need help. [Cencio] treats them respectfully, giving them dignity. Not in any way, not giving them anything but kindness, respect, and compassion. That's what he does really, really well," said Executive Director Margot Adams-Reid.

Minson said he always felt his life's road would lead him to a place helping others and doing it with dignity.

"Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and with kindness. Especially if you're already coming, you're not feeling optimistic or too happy about having to come to a pantry for your family but you know you need it," Minson said.
