This undeniable energy radiates from Raymond James Stadium, but it’s what happens right outside that marks the true Bucs nation.

“We’ve been tailgating for about 7 years,” said Bucs fan, Marion Vernon. “You have to be a Bucs fan to be around here — believe that."

Vernon and his brother Michael Vernon said they woke up before the sun on Sunday to make sure they secured a good tailgating spot for game day.

“We’re right across from the stadium, baby,” said Mario. “I was born in 1976, so you got to know I’m a true Bucs fan."

The Vernon brothers were joined by friends and family under their Tampa Bay Buccaneers tent, enjoying food and music while they anticipated another Bucs win.

“My family, my son, cousins, friends — everybody will be here in a second,” said Mario. “I love this, we’re home — this is home and there’s no better place to be.”

Dozens of other tents were also set up on Woodlawn Avenue near Raymond James Stadium.

“I’m a season ticket holder of 15 years,” said Darby Davis. “I come to the game because I support 813 — we’re going back to the super bowl.”

The streets were shut down until game day traffic cleared.
