PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of one of its deputies.

The deputy was off-duty when he was involved in a crash on Blanton Road, near James Road, just before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. 

Authorities said he was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. The driver of the other car is recovering in the hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol is also investigating.
