The Spring Hill YMCA is building an outdoor garden for seniors after it received a donation from Lowe’s.

The company is celebrating its centennial and as part of the celebration, it is awarding 100 hometowns with a $10,000 donation to improve communities across the country.

The Spring Hill YMCA was part of the 2,000 application submission that received the approval.

The project was spearheaded by a member of the Y, and volunteers came together to make it all happen to help beautify the area and give seniors an outdoor activity.

“I actually drew out the picture for this garden probably six or seven years ago,” said organizer Melissa Jonas. “And all this time I’ve been trying to find a way to bring it to fruition, and when i saw the Lowe’s Hometown 100 that they were looking for the 100 top hometowns, I thought this was the perfect opportunity.”

Volunteers hope to have the project completed within the upcoming week.
