CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Lingering floodwaters remain at some locations across Citrus and Hernando counties.

Some areas of Homosassa had parking lots and roads underwater Friday morning, including at MacRae's motel and bait shop on Cherokee Way.

Some coastal flooding is taking place after Thursday's cold front moved across the area.

"We came to Homosassa on our way back home to see it and now we're stuck," said Kathryn Kennedy who is staying at MacRae's motel with her husband Lynn and made the stop before driving the last 6-hour stretch back home down in the Everglades. "We just ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that we had in the car. We’re going to look for a restaurant, and I guess they’re going to let us spend the night again."

"It's a high tide and then we've got a very, very hard wind coming out of the west so it's pushing the water in further and harder than it would normally push it in," said Susan Miller, the operations manager for River Safaris. Typically, visitors and locals alike rent boats from River Safaris to enjoy, but the surges of water and wind have made that impossible.

Water levels around the Citrus County area were about 1 to 3 feet above normal with strong winds expected throughout the day.

Winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected the rest of the day with even higher gusts.

Isolated and scattered showers are expected for the area Friday afternoon and into Friday night.
