ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — A federal appeals court temporarily blocked the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate.

And Florida is among the 27 states that have sued the Biden administration over the mandate for certain businesses.

What You Need To Know

During a stop in Zephyrhills Monday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis said other than litigation, the state also is taking legislative measures to halt COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

The governor announced the 'Keep Florida Free' legislative agenda, hoping to pass the swath of measures at next Monday's special session.

"We're going to do something in this special session that matters,” DeSantis said. “We're going to do something in this special session that is going to put people's minds at ease, that is going to save their jobs."

The main bill Gov. DeSantis is looking to get passed would make private employers add exemptions for any COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

It would out-right ban mandates for government and education employees while also prohibiting schools from requiring a COVID-19 vaccine.

In the meantime, another bill would create a proposal to withdraw the state from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).

Gov. DeSantis officially running for re-election

DeSantis has officially filed for re-election in 2022.

DeSantis announced the run last month, but had not filed any paperwork until now.

There are now 16 active candidates for Florida governor with major opponents including rep. Charlie Crist and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.
